I do not know if this is common knowledge but th few people that I asked, was blinded about it. To me, I found it very disturbing and criminal. Okay, criminal is bit harsh but I feel v strongly about it. Uber is an app which allows consumers with smartphones to submit a trip request which is then routed to Uber drivers who use their own cars.(got that from wiki) Yadah Yadah every knows it I guess
I supposed most people uses uber because it's cheaper than grab and a normal taxi, kudos to them about it. Recently, a friend of mine was going through her bank transactions and realised that uber was over charging her. So she asked me about my experience and I went to check it.
So that night I went home and did some digging in my own accounts and boy was I shocked. For example, for a $15 ride, one would have been charged $15.42. For a $11 ride, one would be charged $11.31and Im guessing you get th picture by now. For th month of April, I didn't really take much cos most of th rides were under th boy's account. And when compared, I was charged an additional $5 plus under "bank transaction fees" for a total of 14 rides. One might think it's nothing. Its just a few cents but it's th principle of th thing. I'm effy that it's not a known thing. Like uber gives a lot of pop-out messages but they didn't do th same as this "bank transaction fee". Most people might say its only a few cents. Yes it's a few cents per ride. Imagine if you take an uber everywhere
When my friend emailed them asking, they said that it was in th ride receipts. So yup, went to check it out.
Where is th "stated" bank transactions? And most companies absorbs th transactions fee. And hey! Th only reason why these fees are there is because they operate through an overseas bank. And all transactions are going overseas and back to Singapore. If you were going to be coming to Singapore to stay, aren't you supposed to set up locally and whatnot? If we are Singaporeans, in Singapore, travelling within Singapore, in Singapore cars, by other Singaporeans (or maybe PR? Lazy to check their hiring conditions)Why are we paying to overseas and getting th transactions as our punishment?
I counter checked with my Grab card payment, they don't charge extra. Just Saying
But, after saying all these, I am still an uber user but I always choose to pay by cash. There aren't bank transactions with cash payments. And sometimes if th drivers are friendly, they even round down th fees and I get to save! Yeah Cash. Although it's a bit more tedious to make sure you have enough cash, I rather do that than to be conned into those few cents.
